Li Jing’s Sword-Dancing Platform in Panshan History
Author:
As a celebrated scenic destination, Panshan boasts a history of more than 1,200 years. As early as the early Tang dynasty, Emperor Taizong of Tang paid a visit to Panshan on his return from an eastern campaign. His victorious general, Li Jing, was so captivated by the mountain’s breathtaking beauty that, upon returning to Chang’an, he resigned from his post as Minister of War and retired to Panshan to spend his twilight years. Li Jing took monastic vows at the foot of Wusan Mountain, near Wujian Peak, where he built three simple thatched huts—this became known as Li Jing’s Hermitage, later rebuilt and renamed Wusan Temple. Legend has it that every day, before dawn, Li Jing would ascend Wujian Peak and practice swordsmanship on a long, flat slab of bluish stone until sunrise; subsequent generations came to call that stone “Sword‑Dancing Platform.”
