Today is Jingzhe: As spring thunder rumbles, all things come to life—now is the perfect time to head up the mountains!
Author:

In mid-spring, when the timely rain arrives, the first thunder rumbles in the eastern corner.
All the insects hide in fear, while grass and trees stretch out in all directions.
Today is Jingzhe.
“Zhe” refers to “hiding and lying low”; in winter, insects burrow into the soil to hide and remain dormant.
“Jing” refers to “being startled awake”; the spring thunder in the sky awakens the hibernating insects.
During the Awakening of Insects, the first spring thunder begins to rumble.
Insects that have been hibernating underground are awakened and emerge one after another.
The Awakening of Insects is divided into three hou:
First period: The peach blossoms begin to bloom.
The second hou: the oriole sings.
The third hou: the hawk transforms into a dove.
The description already indicates that mid-spring has arrived.
The season when peach blossoms blush red, pear blossoms gleam white, orioles sing, and swallows return.
In ancient times, people in some regions would fumigate the four corners of their homes with fragrant herbs and mugwort, using the scent to ward off snakes, insects, mosquitoes, mice, and musty odors. Over time, this practice gradually evolved into the custom of “hitting little demons” during the Awakening of Insects festival to dispel bad luck. Other traditions include “covering the drum with hide,” “eating pears,” and “offering sacrifices to the White Tiger to resolve disputes.”
During the Awakening of Insects, spring forests are in full bloom, hibernating insects begin to stir, and Panshan will soon witness the revival of all living things.
Over the next month, the peach, pear, and apricot blossoms in Panshan Scenic Area will bloom in vibrant succession, creating a breathtaking ink‑wash painting.
