Heaven and Earth · Panshan, Act II: The Green Lamp
Author:
During the Qianlong Emperor’s snowy wedding procession, a grand imperial bridal entourage set out, with snowflakes swirling and reds and whites intermingling. The emperor conferred the title of empress, hosted a lavish banquet for his ministers, and celebrated in song and dance. Yet, consumed by resentment toward his own mother, Qianlong deliberately kept Lady Niohuru at a distance, instructing her henceforth to conceal her humble origins so as not to tarnish his reputation, and to remain hidden within the palace walls. In the mountains, at a temple, Pan’er journeyed alone to Tidu. Amid the four seasons of Mount Pan, a longing and a love destined never to meet matured into each of their profound realizations of what it means to love the world.
