Many years later, a severe drought struck the land, and Emperor Qianlong, consumed by anxiety, ordered his ministers to comfort and relieve the suffering people. Even Pan’er, though frail, led the nuns in earnestly praying for rain.
When the heart is sincere, heaven sends down a great rain. Amid the joy of all beings, Qianlong and Pan’er sang the vow they had made for a lifetime. Qianlong prayed that they might meet again in this life, but Pan’er had long since understood the bond of this existence and resolutely chose to remain forever hidden within the mountain temple.
