During its conservation, development, and construction, Panshan has restored and built numerous scenic spots. To provide visitors with convenient access, a 980-meter-long passenger ropeway was completed in 1994, offering direct service to the picturesque central area—the Wansong Temple complex. In 2004, another ropeway, the Yunsong Ropeway, stretching 1,700 meters from Wansong Temple to Yunzhao Temple, was also constructed. Covering an area of 106 square kilometers, the Panshan Scenic Area continues to attract an ever-growing number of tourists with its exquisite, tranquil landscapes, time-honored and captivating legends, and warm, courteous service.
As ancient scholars once remarked, “The Buddhist monasteries of Panshan are scattered like pieces on a chessboard,” underscoring the significant status and enduring value of Panshan in the history of Buddhism. Conversely, the introduction and subsequent development of Buddhism played a pivotal role in fostering the area’s own growth and exploitation. Between 2006 and 2007, during the process of establishing Panshan as a national 5A‑level scenic spot, dedicated efforts—including thorough field research and painstaking management—led to the restoration and reconstruction of several renowned historic Zen monasteries within the park, such as Shangfang Temple, Wansong Temple, Fazang Temple, and Nantianmen. Today, these celebrated temples draw throngs of pilgrims and tourists, transforming once‑decaying, desolate ruins into vibrant, awe‑inspiring landscapes. In recent years, Jixian County has accelerated its drive to upgrade and restructure its tourism sector, centering on Panshan’s Buddhist cultural heritage. Initiatives such as launching the construction of Panshan as a renowned Buddhist mountain, establishing the Panshan Buddhist Association, and reopening Beishao Lin Temple have helped forge a comprehensive “Greater Panshan” tourism framework. Complemented by the large‑scale, immersive live‑performance production “Heaven and Earth: Panshan,” these efforts have deepened the scenic area’s cultural appeal and advanced the development of a high‑end cultural tourism industry chain.
